Game hunting is an activity that is performed throughout the whole nation; humanity is not going hunting for beneficial reasons, but to try and kill the largest and most valuable animal of the species of which they are hunting. This idea of hunting is a new aspect of the hunting world. Hunting in the past 100 years has changed from the work of trying to provide food and safety for families into a recreational activity (Laney, “Introduction to Hunting: Opposing Viewpoints” par. 2). Hunting in the 20th century is completely different than it was centuries ago. Nowadays, more people hunt for the thrill of shooting the most prime animal available. ears ago hunting was primarily used to provide food for oneself and his or her family. Game hunting is an inane activity that should not be allowed. I've always believed that game hunting should not be legal, but some individuals counter this claim arguing that game hunting is a sport that humans participates in just like any other sport. Humanity also argues that game hunting is a man’s instinct, aiming to kill the highest valued possession which in this case would be an animal. According to Laney, author of “Preface to ‘Is Hunting a Form of Cruelty to Animals" she states that “Most hunters view hunting as a natural outdoor pastime that cements the bond between humans and nature while humanely and respectfully putting man against animal” (par. 3). The author reminds us that hunting, or game hunting, is clarifying that man is the most powerful animal, and that game hunting is a natural activity many people enjoy in the world. Opponents propose that hunting is a man’s instinct, that hunting is natural. Counterclaims also provide information that assets hunting is a tool that creates tourism. Society uses the excuse of tourism to go hunting; society uses this excuse to travel and to become a resident of a different location all while hunting. Hunting is a right of each person and is a great tool for tourism (Batten par. 2). Altogether, hunters use the excuse of tourism to explore and hunt animals that are not located in their home territory. Although I agree with Batten up to a point, I cannot accept his overall conclusion that it is a man’s instinct to hunt and that hunting brings tourism for beneficial reasons. This, in effect, causes animal populations to decrease and will result to start affecting habitats. Even though a part of society claims that game hunting does not have any negative effects and is a sport like all other sports, these supporters are wrong. Game hunting not only kills the best of the best animals, it is senseless, and it destroys the homes of certain animals. Likewise, is it inhumane to kill animals for sport like purposes, and hunting also makes little economic sense (Barritt par. 1). Why would a person go hunting to kill the best animal of a specific species? This in effect would reduce the entire species desirability and uniqueness to a lower level. Altogether, game hunting should become illegal or laws should be passed to limit the type and amount of game hunting that occurs.
